-skippity skip- Ashton's shift ended, but he couldn't stop thinking about Leah. Why? He had no idea. Probably because he was the first attractive female person who had said a word to him in months, but there was something more to it. It was odd, since he'd spent four years knowing her in high school, and he'd never even thought of her as anything more than a friend. Though that could be blamed on the fact that Jacob never shut up about her, and it would have been wrong of him to go after her when he was already so obsessed with her. But now Jacob was in New York working with some big producer man, and Leah was still here.
Well, was she still here? That's what Ashton wanted to find out as he walked back towards Alec's room. He wasn't sure if Leah would be there or not, but he figured that he could come up with some excuse to talk to her if she was.

Alec had finally gotten back to sleep after the nurses finally gave in and gave him something to stop the nausea. Leah meanwhile couldn't fall asleep. She was too worried of waking up and Alec not being there. She was busy on her phone reading a book. She didn't even notice Ashton.

Ashton saw Leah sitting in Alec's room, so he walked in quietly. "Hey," Ashton said quietly. "How is he?" Ashton knew it was probably a stupid question since Alec had cancer, but it seemed like the right thing to say at the time.

"Tired but aren't we all," Leah teased. It was a pleasant surprise to see Ashton here. "The nurses gave him something and he was out within two minuets. Whatever thy gave him I need," Leah teased.

Ashton chuckled slightly. "Why don't you go home and get some rest?" he suggested. "He'll probably be asleep until morning anyways, and you definitely look like you could use a few hours of good sleep." Ashton then realized that what he said could be easily misunderstood, and he reached up and rubbed his neck awkwardly. "Not that you don't look okay, I mean, you look fine. Just tired. And wow, I'm rambling again, aren't I?" Ashton was never good at the whole flirting thing.

" Trust me he Wakes up a lot and if anything happens while I'm the only one they can contact," Leah said. "It's not that simple," Leah ram off Starbucks and monster. At least she had that to keep her up.

Ashton sighed. "I know," he said. "But the nurses know what they're doing. They'll take good care of him. You have to think about yourself every once in a while." There were two kinds of relatives when it came to kids living in hospitals. There were the kind who would rather wait until their child is almost dead or cured to see them, in fear of seeing them in such a horrible state. Then there were the kind who felt like they needed to be there every second of every day. Ashton would rather have the latter, but he also knew that Leah needed to look out for herself more.

Leah just looked at Alec who force looked peaceful. He also looked horrible. He was laying in sweat pretty much and he smelled of throw up. At least the managed to get one tumor out. Even though there was more.
"I don't want to come back to him dead or in more problems..." Leah said quietly trailing off. She didn't want to be like her mom and not be there for Alec. Alec was her best friend and if anything happened to him she'd be devastated

Ashton nodded. "I understand," he said. "But he's stable right now. He's not doing great, but he's not going to get worse overnight." Ashton knew that Leah was just worried, but he also knew enough about Alec's condition to know that he would be okay until morning. And he could see that Leah needed some rest, so he would do what he could to convince her to go home for the night.

Leah sighed wuietly and looked at her brother before deciding to just stand up. "I guess," Leah said quietly. She stood up and took her bag and stood up. She shook Alec a little. "I'm gonna go home I'll be back in the morning," Alec just swatted her hand away and nodded. He went back to sleep when she pulled away.
Leah laughed a little. "I guess hell always act like a little brother," Leah teased.

Ashton chuckled a little. "Of course," he said. Ashton didn't have any siblings, so he never knew what it was like. "I'll walk you to your car?" he offered. Ashton was really just looking for an excuse to spend more time with Leah, but he was also being a gentleman, right?

"That'd be nice," Leah said with a smile. She followed him outside. Leah felt her oh one buzz and looked at the text message her mom wouldn't be home again. Leah just rolled her eyes and threw her phone in her purse. She looked over at Ashton. "How hard are the classes?" Leah asked.

Ashton shrugged. "It depends on the day, I guess," he said. "It's not that difficult as long as you do the work and put time aside for studying. But that kind of prohibits any chance of a social life." Ashton had been all about school, which is why he was doing so well. Med school wasn't easy, but Ashton had too much drive to let that get him down.

"I shouldn't have a problem with the no social life thing," Leah said with a laugh. She pushed some hair behind her ear and looked at him. "I was gonna do it when I got out of school and then Alec got hospitalized." Leah shrugged as of it were nothing.

Ashton nodded. "I see," he said. "You'd be really good at it. A lot better than most of the kids in my classes, anyways." It was a small local college, so there weren't many star students. But Ashton knew that Leah would be an amazing doctor, so it was a shame that life got in the way of her becoming one.
